Never having been to Ignite Phoenix, I nevertheless worship it from afar.

The intellectual excitement that emanates from this event is incredible and you and all those who work to make Ignite Phoenix possible are to be greatly commended.

Don't stop now.

@Evo - That's exactly the intent, to showcase the ideas as quickly as possible, encourage presenters to get to the point, then create time during and after the event for people to connect. A lot of effort in the past few Ignites has been to increase the amount of discussion time between halves, the after party, visibility of videos, etc.

@ Perri - Technically I'm Stone. You, Rock!

@Charlene - I thought about doing a whole section on the team and what they put into it, but figured I would leave that to anyone on the team to do if they wanted. I know your objectives with Ignite are different from mine, which are different from Brian's, Alan's, etc. All those views are totally valid, and it's part of what makes Ignite work.

What I love about this post (and by extension about Ignite Phoenix) is that we can all have different reasons why we love this event. I like your reasons for loving Ignite, but I have my own reason that is quite different.

I dedicate my time to help plan and put on Ignite Phoenix because I love being part of an event that empowers everyday people to find a voice for their passion. The Ignite Phoenix speaker presentation process doesn't take into consideration your occupation, your social status, or even whom you know. It's about the idea and not the person in the selection process. That levels the playing field and allows anyone... ANYONE... to present at Ignite Phoenix.

I know from my own life experience that finding the voice for your passion can change everything. I'm sure that some of the people who submit an idea but don't make the cut to present on the Ignite Phoenix stage still have found personal success through this process. By creating and submitting their proposal, they have given a voice to their passion. Once you let that genie out of the bottle, you can never stuff him back in. And of course, the people who make it to the Ignite Phoenix stage have a potential life changing situation. They get the chance to fully voice their passion in a way normally not possible in everyday living.

I believe Ignite Phoenix is one of the forces for good in our community, and I'm thrilled to get a little of that good karma mojo in my life through my participation.

I agree on all parts and feel like adding one more:

I love Ignite for it's respect of my time. And that means the event itself (the last one had virtually no preamble) and the presentations. There's no time for extensive setup. I view that as positive. It puts the power of making further and deeper connections on my shoulders, rather than assume I want them.

Let's do it again sometime. Oh wait, we are. :)
